More than a showing of art "Reflection" is an experiential exhibition that invites you, the viewer, to step into the sculpture. Guests are invited, one at a time, to have a moment of reflection within the dazzlingly oversized sculpture "Stadium of Self".
Stadium of Self is a sculpted object that personifies self-reflection. The immense but delicate structure is reminiscent of ancient Roman coliseums, in which a vast crowd or capricious Caesar traditionally determined the participant’s fate. When entering the amber-mirrored octagonal space, the visitor looks out into the stands for judgment but sees only the multitude of their own reflection, returning their gaze 70 times simultaneously.
The mirrors towering 10 feet overhead are arranged like a Fresnel lens, all aiming at a center point of light, which is the viewer's own face. The entire interior is constructed to radiate an amber light with the viewer at its center.
Stadium of Self is an interactive sculpture that challenges the notion of ones’ worth as determined by external forces.
The exhibition continues on the second floor of the gallery featuring the recently completed work "Rhizo Lux" and "Gear Chandeliers".
